So here at Alleve we have a great opportunity to trial the latest IPL treatment for meibomian gland dysfunction from Designs for Vision - the Eye Light.  Frequently used to treat facial rosacea, intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy has been used for several years to treat blocked oil glands responsible for tear film dysfunction and evaporative dry eye.  The Eye-Light takes it to another level by incorporating low level light therapy (LLLT) as a mask to heat the upper lids as well. LLLT has also shown to improve healing and treat inflammation.

I am currently trialling an at-home LLLT system - not as intense as the post-IPL treat...

WE know that Manuka honey is being used very successfully in dry eye (see our previous post from November).  Ocular bacteria has an enormous role in dry eye and it's progression and I find Optimel Manuka honey eye drops and gel are integral to my dry eye management. But Manuka honey is well documented for use in wound healing, particularly in people who have MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus, or 'Golden staph').  Here is some more information on Manuka honey and it's role in managing bacteria, whilst decreasing the risk of resistance. Did you know that blinking can be extremely helpful for your vision?

The simple act of blinking flushes fresh tears over the eye, re-moisturizing & keeping foreign matter and irritants out. It can help ease the soreness, dryness and redness experienced when we concentrate on tasks for long periods of time such as computer and tablet device use.

Dry eye affects approximately 15-40% of the general population living in Australia.

Dry eye is rising at an alarming rate due to the explosive use of screen devices which reduce blinking. Excessively staring at screens is exacerbating dry eye & ocular discomfort.

World-renowned dry eye...
